24 Things To Do In Auckland

Having come back from holiday and having a couple of weeks of school holiday left, I thought I would compile a list of things to do in Auckland.

I scoured about 4 or 5 different travel websites and read through the many things they suggested to be done in Auckland, many of these things are free, and took the ones I thought would be most important and interesting to do.

dr suess.jpgHappy Friday!!!!!!!

I have decided to step up and become a much more active member  on our little community. So, to celebrate this I’m sharing my favourite quotes in our new FRIDAY Feature – 3 quotes.

One of the most fun set of books to read aloud to children are the Dr Suess books. Dr Suess is actually the pen name for Author and illustrator Theodor Seuss Geisel. His books have become some of the most popular children’s books of all time selling over 600 million copies which have been translated into more than 20 languages. He adopted the pen name Dr Suess during his time at Dartmouth college and the University of Oxford. He worked as an illustrator for many years and during WW2 he worked as an animator for the animation department of the United States of America government. After the war, he concentrated on his children’s books and has published over 60, many of which have become films, Tv series and even a broadway musical.

Journal, Life

Sickness and journalling

I’ve been on and off work for the last week and a bit. I’ve been feeling really under the weather and it got the better of me last week. I have used this time sleeping and recovering and as I’ve been feeling better I’ve used this time to catch up on my journal.

I’ve also been exploring some new forms of journaling and have done some reading and youtube watching about Bullet journaling. Some interesting examples can be found on Marie claire UK, Life hacker and this in depth, one month in look at what worked and changes were made to make the system work from Boho Berry.

Link parties

I know we are not all here to write blog posts to reach the masses, some of us are just here to let loose, write for therapy. But whatever your motives are Link ups and link parties are a great way to get your blog posts out to a wider readership but also to find a more diverse selection of blogs to read. I try and participate in a wide range of link ups to build up the readership of my blog. It really works. When I make an effort to link up I can see the difference in my stats.

Now, what is a link party I hear you ask. Imagine this.

Day to day, we all go about our own business, but once in a while we go to a party and meet up with friends. Imagine now going to a party where you don’t know anyone, you chat to new people and make some new friends. This is a link up. You go to a blog and know no one, but leave your blog link and maybe visit a few new blogs and find some great new content to read.

To help you link up there is a wide range of link ups depending on what type of blog niche you have. Here are some that I have found.

My favourite is over at Dream big, Dream often there is a weekly chance to leave a link and either have it reblogged or just linked up with everyone else in the comments.

A lot of sites will have a directory of link ups they have found or use. Many will have a variety of different link up themes. So there should be one for your blog’s niche and every day of the week.

Here are some that I try and use.

Sunday – niftythriftythings

Monday – Newman’s Corner

Wednesday – Chaotic bliss

Thursday – for the love to

Friday – My Creative Scoop

Go on, put on your dancing shoes and go link up with some new friends to be. If you find any new Link ups come back and share them with us.

Quality over quantity

I have been posting daily for most of November for the NaBloPoMo (National Blog Posting Month). So far I think I regret signing up. It may be that because I’ve fallen ill and am not feeling at my best so the last thing I want to do is think about my blog or write posts.

Think back over what I’ve written in the last few weeks I’d day the quality of what I’m posting has gone down. I’m getting lazy. 😦

I guess this does prove that you can burn out from blogging. I may have to stop trying to post daily and save myself from complete burnout.

I need to get back to my schedule of posting and actually go back to using my editorial calendar to get ahead of myself. Even though we are now 23 days into the month and I know there are only 8 more days to go……….

Guest post a Book and Activity

I read this great post about creating an activity to go with books that you read with children. Cassi at the Crafty Crow has created a great guest posting series where she invited people to submit books and a linked craft they have shared with children. I am sad that I missed this and wanted to share my own and invite anyone to share with me their book and activity (craft or other activity) to let me know and I will post it up.

I will create a master list in this post and link up all the books and activities for you all to refer back to.

  • I will start with a book and activity I recently did with my children at school. I read them Please, Mr Panda and did a drama activity.

Message me with a link to your blog post and I will repost and link you up OR you can email me your entry to ayirrell@gmail.com and I will get it posted.

Please share on Twitter, Facebook and on your blog to get this off to a great start!!!!

12 Best Picture Books For Imagination.

Imagenation.jpg

Our topic this term has been imagination. This is a round of the best picture books which link to Imagination, I have read ALL these books with my kinder kids and they loved them!

The children loved looking at Quest and Journey, they could retell the story and not worry about getting it right as there are no words. It really encouraged them to think and imagine what story the pictures are telling.

Not a stick or box really helped them imagine what everyday items could become.

The children gave the story machine a big thumbs up! They love how the letters made pictures.

It might be an apple was a great book and we talked about lots more things that an apple might be.

This book just ate my dog was a funny book that had the kids laughing and wanting to  help shake out the lost characters.

We loved reading all these books and they really helped us improve our imaginations.
