24 Things To Do In Auckland

Having come back from holiday and having a couple of weeks of school holiday left, I thought I would compile a list of things to do in Auckland.

I scoured about 4 or 5 different travel websites and read through the many things they suggested to be done in Auckland, many of these things are free, and took the ones I thought would be most important and interesting to do.

The View From The top

On a sunny-ish day, last week, a Monday to be precise. We took a trip up the Sky tower in Auckland to see the view from the top. I have done this a couple of times before in different cities (Sydney and Melbourne)  and really enjoy looking at the city from so high up. I wanted to go at sunset so we would get the best of the city in both daylight and darkness but He wasn’t going to wait till that late at night to go. Continue reading “The View From The top”

Postcards from Wellington …. Part 4

Kapiti Island

Kapiti Island is a small island just 5km off the coast of Wellington. It is roughly rectangular being 8km long and 2km wide.

The island is home to a number of native birds, mostly re-introduced. These include takaheNorth Island kōkakobrown tealstitchbird(hihi), North Island saddleback (tieke), tomtit (miromiro), fantail (piwakawaka), morepork (ruru), weka and North Island robin (toutouwai). The brown kiwi and little spotted kiwi were released on the island between 1890 and 1910, and the island is now the stronghold for the latter species. Rat eradication has led to increases in red-fronted parakeetsNorth Island robinbellbirds, and saddlebacks, and the island is considered one of New Zealand‘s most important sites for bird recovery, as well as a major breeding site for sea birds. In April 2005, the critically endangered short-tailed bat was introduced to the island from a threatened population in the Tararuas, providing them with a separate, safer habitat. – Wikipedia

Postcards from Thailand

Being so much closer to Thailand in Australia than i was in the UK, i made sure i used this as chance to explore the wonders this country holds. I decided to do an organised tour as there a small amount of unrest at that time and i didn’t feel comfortable travelling as a solo woman. I joined a group called ThaIntro which is run through the Nomads hostel chain and they organised the whole first week – accommodation, food, trips and travel. I stayed on a bit longer to add some relaxation time to my trip. This got changed when the hostel offered me a chance to do my PADI open water diving course and helped re-arrange some of my activities so i could complete it in time.

Photography Spotlight #2 The Sea

IMG_4491

The sea is the theme of this week’s photography spotlight.

This is taken from the air on a light aircraft flight over the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. I took this picture of the heart shaped gap in the reef while i was up in Cairns. I love the sea and especially loved Cairns for it many chances to get into the sea among the reef’s to Scuba dive.

Leaning to scuba dive was one of the best things i did in the last few years as it has opened up a whole new world to me under the waves.
