Photography Spotlight #13 Mountains/ Volcanoes

This is the 13th Photography spotlight, This week’s theme is Mountains/ Volcanoes. Here in Auckland we have a lot of volcanoes (about 40 I think) and they are spread all over the city. I wanted to share some of them with you today. I know not everyone can take pictures of volcanoes so that’s why it’s mountains as well.

Photography Spotlight #11 Alphabet

This is the 11th Photography spotlight, This week’s theme is the Alphabet.

While looking back over various pictures on my Instagram account I found these. I remember exactly when I took them, in a small village in England called Bourton on the water. We had gone for the weekend I had seen a great image in a shop where someone had used letters in the natural world to create the word love. As we walked around I kept spotting these things which looked like letters. So I thought it would a great challenge to try to photograph the whole alphabet.

Have you spotted letters in the natural world?

Photography Spotlight #7 Clocks

This is the 7th Photography spotlight, This week’s theme is Clock’s.

I take pictures of clocks all around the world. Time can be tricky when you in a different time zone. Some places are really strict and trains will leave the second they are supposed to but other countries can be a lot more relaxed and leave minutes if not hours later than scheduled.

If you’d like to join in, all you have to do is create a post titled “Photography Spotlight #7 clocks” then post the link to your blog in the comment section on my page.

Photography Spotlight #6 Butterflies

While i was in Australia i went up to Kuranda and visited the Butterfly sanctuary. It was a great place to practise photographing butterflies as there were so many, all over the place. I got some great pictures and this is my Favourite one. I love the contrast between the red of the butterfly and the wooden bench.

Photography Spotlight #5 A Day in the life of Alex

For this Photography Spotlight i wanted to capture what my current life looks like on a daily basis.

While blog hopping i found this post using the Ali Edwards idea of documenting a day in your life. You can find the instructions for the the series here  and the Gallery of posts hereAli Edwards has large range of journalling products and just before left to travel i started to keep a Project Life book of past travels and my life. It was far to bulky to continue on the road and the journalling cards would be tricky to keep and send home and then put in order. So i have shelved that project for my return to the UK. When i get back i will try and use my travel journals, Facebook, this blog and all the other note keeping methods to make some sort of entries for the years i have been away.

But decided to use the Ali Edwards idea of capturing photos of different parts of your day. I have done this before but as my life has changed massively since then i wanted to do it again. I forgot to take many pictures during the day like a picture of my lunch (didn’t really want to look a like a crazy person on my first day at this school, lol). I will probably aim to do this again in a couple of months to see what has changed.  Continue reading “Photography Spotlight #5 A Day in the life of Alex”

Photography Spotlight – Doors

I find doors very intriguing, they ask lots of questions.

What’s behind me? Where do i go? Am i locked? Who lives in a house with this style of door?

I think it’s the teacher in me always questionng and encouraging ideas from the smallest seeds. Pictures of doors are a great tool for that and i often give children a picture of a door to think about what is on the other side.

Here are some of my favourite doors i’ve found.
