The Open Book

What would every book lovers dream be? To run their own bookshop but currently it’s not something many people would quit their current jobs to take on. How about for a holiday? Would you relocate for two weeks to a small Scottish town called Wigtown to run a book shop? I know that i would if i got the chance.

Enter the Open book

The blog for this wonderful venture shows how many different and vibrant people have taken on the chance to be booksellers for 14 days. Boy do they all seem to enjoy it.

So if this is how you would like to spend your two week holiday head over to the air BnB site and book yourself into two weeks of literary heaven.

Book Nooks

So i have been delayed writing my Monday post on books. Naughty me i know! Many things have been happening over the last week including moving to a new flat, so all the rigmarole of packing, cleaning, unpacking more cleaning etc….. have taken up the time i would normally spend planning and writing posts in advance. However, i wanted to share something bookish with you today but am keeping t short and sweet.

Introducing the Book Nook. I really want a house in which i can sit on a window seat in the sunshine with a great book and a brew. Sigh. Until that time i am going to just have to fantasise on Pinterest what my perfect book nook could be like.

In a hole in the ground there lived a Hobbit

“I am looking for someone to share in an adventure that I am arranging, and it’s very difficult to find anyone.’
I should think so — in these parts! We are plain quiet folk and have no use for adventures. Nasty disturbing uncomfortable things! Make you late for dinner!”
― J.R.R. TolkienThe Hobbit

Arriving in the land of the Hobbits, the one thing i could not do was leave without a visit to the famous Hobbiton. My birthday was a month after i landed and what better present to myself than to have a trip to visit the film set of one of my favourite books of all time, the book i reread every few years.  Continue reading “In a hole in the ground there lived a Hobbit”

Things i have learnt teaching reading

Following on from the list of things i like i wanted to share some things i have learnt teaching reading across three different countries.

England – where i trained, taught and learnt so much in my first two years of teaching.

Australia – where i gained my passion for teaching again and learnt a whole new style of teaching.

New Zealand – where i’m starting to see the importance of some basics i’ve taken for granted. Continue reading “Things i have learnt teaching reading”

How to find inspiration, ideas and wonderful reading books

As a Relief teacher the first thing i do when i have organised my day, and know what the schedule and planning is, is to look around. I don’t mean just look at the classroom. I mean really look.

Look at the books on the book shelf, the teachers desk, the walls, thumb through the children’s books and anything you can get your hands on (maintaining some privacy of course).

Here are some are some of the places i have found great ideas and inspiration from  Continue reading “How to find inspiration, ideas and wonderful reading books”

You only live once…

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of A Daily Rhythm. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
You can either share here in the comments if you don’t have a blog or create a pay and link it back here.

So here is mine:

The sense of awe begins well before the music starts playing. Just entering Verona’s ancient arena takes your breath away.
